Our rules of the road to travel safely during COVID days:

  1. Use non-medical N95 masks to keep us and others safe.

  2. Masks on whenever we are inside and other people are around (which should be avoided).

  3. Wear masks outside whenever we cannot be at least 10 feet away from other people.

  4. Drink and eat outside or in the hotel room/car.

  5. Wash hands/sanitize ASAP after a public surface (e.g., door handle) is touched.

Today was the first day of our road trip. We learned one important lesson today - you can get sunburned while driving a convertible! Sunscreen on before we leave tomorrow. Also, Ian got some interesting convertible hair.

Otherwise, we stopped every hour or so for restroom breaks - got gas for $1.79/gallon today!

Stopped at a brewery in Knoxville and drank outside - I got a coconut lime gose and Ian had a brown ale. Our hotel is Chattanooga is very nice (District 3 Hotel), but no one staying here is wearing a mask - which makes me very glad that we got our N95s! The hotel is on the outskirts of downtown, which we walked through tonight. We ordered UberEats for dinner because it was just too hot to eat outside and got some vegan food - cheesesteak and tacos. During our walk downtown, we saw the river that cuts through Chattanooga and stopped for drinks and churros at a Mexican restaurant with air-conditioned outdoor seating - it was very nice after a long walk. There is definitely a train theme here...there was even a street named Choo Choo!

That's it for today - Nashville and Memphis tomorrow!
