I forgot to mention in the last post that we celebrated 15 years since our first date! Man, time flies!

Today, we left Memphis and headed to Columbia, MO. It was neat to see the land flatten out when we got to the other side of the Mississippi. We stopped at Cape Girardeau, MO which is a cute town on the Mississippi. We stopped at Ebb and Flow Brewery and had some really terrific beer. We stopped in a St. Louis suburb for some bbq at Smokee Mo's - they even had vegan options so I got barbecue jackfruit nachos. Ian got something meaty - we thought the food was great!

As we were heading to Columbia, we started to realize that we thought we could push through and make it all the way to Kansas City. We stopped in Columbia to walk around and got a Passion Fruit bubble tea, but then we headed to Kansas City and our hotel (Hotel Indigo - we stayed at a Courtyard Marriott yesterday) is not playing around with COVID! I had to call from the outside before they would let me in and a mask was required to enter. They have antibacterial wipes at all the elevators. Impressive.

We drove to Kansas City, KS to say that we've been to Kansas. The difference between the two sides of the city is remarkable. The Kansas side is notably less polished, but celebrates a wider variety of cultures than the Missouri side.

We walked around downtown KC but there wasn't much going on because of COVID - and it's Sunday. But the city is very pretty and well-lit. Ian got hungry so we got some takeout BBQ again at Char Bar and he loved it! He always wanted to compare Kansas City and St. Louis BBQ - seems like Kansas City wins!

Tomorrow, it's my turn to drive. Our rule is that I drive on days Ian is working remotely and when he's off, he's gotta drive. So I'll be driving us to Des Moines, IA tomorrow and we plan on staying in Omaha, NE.
