One of our favorite parts about traveling is the unexpected surprises. Today, we got one.

We started our morning in Lincoln, NE and we drove to the Sunken Gardens which were very pretty (see first pictures below). We also drove through the downtown area, but there wasn't much going on there.

We returned to the hotel and we had reserved a time to have the pool to ourselves - one of the perks of COVID that I'd actually like to keep even in the "after times". It was nice to relax for a bit in the pool and jacuzzi before heading out west.

We made two pit stops on our way to Cheyenne, WY. First, in Grand Island, NE we split a flight of beers at Kinkaider Brewing because we couldn't make up our mind about what we wanted. The beer was good and the downtown was cute. We saw multiple trains pass by.

The second stop was in North Platte, NE at Pal's Brewing. I think we both regretted going here. We split a pineapple beer which was OK and ordered something called pizza fries. I expected bread sticks, but instead we got a cracker thin cheese pizza cut into small slices. I was disappointed, especially since it cost $11 - but more than disappointed when they actually charged us $16. Ian complained to the waitress and she said that they increased the size of the pizza, so that resulted in an increase in price. Ian very nicely said that they really should tell us that when we order. She asked if he'd like her to change the bill - um yeah! I don't understand people some times, but anyway, they gave us a story to tell here. Ironic that this place is called Pal's! I don't even overcharge my enemies! :)

So our unexpected surprise was Cheyenne, WY. Wow, what a cute town! It has a nicely laid out downtown with lots of shops, but not many people around. It's very "westerny", but not overdone. We visited an old steam engine train and took some silly pictures with the boots around town. Later that night, we got some Thai food at Anong's that was amazing! The summer rolls were some of the best I ever had.

Tonight, we are staying at a Best Western Plus a little outside of the central part of town. They are also doing a very good job with COVID. In fact, all the hotels have - but the clientele at the Chattanooga hotel just didn't do a good job doing their part by wearing masks.

Tomorrow, we are heading to Grand Junction, CO with a couple of pit stops. Will report to you tomorrow night!
