Started out our day sharing two pastries from Netto - a local grocery store and headed for the eastern fjords. The mountainside was incredible and it was quite cold and windy, but sunny. We got lunch at Salt, which was veggie friendly but rather pricey ($24 for a wrap with fries!). Afterwards, we visited Rainbow Road and Gufu waterfalls. Up to that point, this was about a 2.5 hour drive and we had 2 hours left to go. We were about 10 minutes out from Lake Myvatn - our overnight spot - when we started smelling Sulphur. It was Hverir - a geothermal place with mud pits and pools of water sending out smoky Sulphur - stinky! I guess that stink made us thirsty, because we hit a hotel bar next for happy hour. We checked in at Hlid Bed and Breakfast. I was nervous because it was one of our cheapest hotel spots...any equivalent hotel was twice the price. I'm glad we are staying here - the room is super small, but the beds and comfortable and we have a small tidy bathroom...but who really needs more than that when we just come here to sleep? Next, we got some dinner at a local hotel with some good veggie options (they had awesome cauliflower soup!) and then we did a short hike at Dimmuborgir (Ian thought it sounded like a metal band, so we had to go). Afterwards, we climbed up an old volcano that's now a crater -Hverfell - that was a workout! Anyway, some cool pics and video below. We'll be staying in Lake Myvatn for 2 days.

You definitely earned your pastry calories with the hike. I'm with Ian about hiking. I like to be there not get there LOL! Cauliflower soup sounds yummy especially in the cold weather.
