Ian's 46th birthday! It was a much better day than yesterday and jam packed full of cool stuff to see. We started out at an old Lutheran church and the tour guide there told us to check out a Viking fortress down the road - we did - and it was pretty amazing! Then we headed to a free geothermal pool, Gudrunarlaug - it was small, cute, and best of all - no one was there! After that we visited Leif Erickson's house, which was quite old, but solidly built. There was nearly two hours after that of pretty views, but no stops. Then, we hit Snaefellsjokul National Park and we were stopping every couple of kilometers! We saw Songhellir (a cave with a great echo), black sand/pebble beaches, Soxhall crater, cliffs, and a scenic view at a small town called Arnarstapi. Before we knew it, it was 8:30 pm and we were starving (we munched on snacks and leftovers throughout the day). The one thing I planned for Ian's birthday didn't work out because they were all booked (it was a beer garden), but Ian found something just as good, if not better - Sker. There, we shared the mushroom soup (delicious) - he had fried fish and mashed potatoes (he didn't want fries) and I had a veggie burger. Everything was fantastic - we even split an Icelandic apple pie. It was another 20 minute drive to our B & B...I was nervous again because this one was pretty cheap, but it's fantastic! It's right on the water (I included a picture below with Kirkjufell - a mountain - a sunset, and the Icelandic flag below). I'd highly recommend this one if you're ever out here! Tomorrow is our last full day in Iceland. 😪
