Well, after all this adventure I guess we were ready for a slow, and somewhat bad, day! We checked out of our tiny room and hit the one spot we had left in the Lake Myvatn area - a lava cave, Grjotagjia. that was used in a steamy Game Of Thrones scene. Anyway, it was very pretty. Next, we visited Godafoss - a beautiful waterfall about a half hour away. We found out a day or two ago we have to get another COVID test 3 days before our flight, and a pharmacist told us that we needed to go to a hospital. I found one in the town on our itinerary for today, Akureyri, but when we got there, they said to go to the clinic downtown. We parked downtown and we had just missed the COVID testing time by 2 hours (none of this is listed anywhere online). No worries, we'll get one in Reykjavik. So, we were heading back to the car when we saw that there was an early happy hour. The beer was well priced, but the veggie tacos were about $18 and they were TINY! At least the beer was good and cheap! But when we go back to the car, lo and behold, we had a parking ticket. Nowhere did it say anything about paying to park...although there was a sign far away from where we parked that said clock at the gas station (I guess their English translation isn't very good - who would think that would mean we have to pay to park in this small town?!?). Anyway, $25 later, the happy hour was very much over. To boost our spirits, we went to Christmas House - a Christmas themed shop which had tasty treats (and an odd boob art piece, see below) - we got a few cookies called Dreams that were some of the best shortbread cookies I've ever had. It was very windy all day - making driving a bit difficult - and when we arrived in Blondous, it was very difficult to even get into the hotel. But our hotel is big and spacious - everything is purple, my favorite color. We opted for an American/Ethiopian restaurant for dinner and everything we ordered was fantastic. Afterward, we found a park with a bouncy spot (see below) and took a look at an island on the Blonda river that is closed for two months of the year for birds to nest. Good for them! We were too lazy to actually go over - plus the wind was just unbearable (Ian said the gusts are at 140 kph!)
Tomorrow is Ian's birthday. I have one thing planned, but we'll see where the day takes us in the Western Peninsula tomorrow!

Ethiopian food in Iceland. Surprising! & what was in that very strange looking dish? Sorry about the parking ticket. So annoying!
